Ok people, listen up. This is really important.
On Thursday June 30th at noon (GMT), Dominic Winter Auctioneers is putting up for sale the contents of Philip Smith‘s studio: equipment and books, including many, many bindings by Smith and a few by other luminaries such as David Sellars, Timothy Ely, and Sue Doggett. Please note that there is an introductory essay by Timothy Ely in the catalog and two of his major books, made specifically for Smith, are up for sale. Dominic Winter is, not coincidentally, in Cirencester. The Society of Bookbinders annual Education and Training Seminars kick off in Cirencester the evening of the 30th, guaranteeing that at least some of you will be on hand to bid in person. You can also bid by phone or leave bids in writing with the auction house. Bid aggressively; bid to win. Instructions are in the catalog. Don’t forget to read the fine print.
This opportunity will not come again. I wish I could be there in person. Pictures, please!
